A Note from Erin,

In this month’s newsletter, I wanted to highlight women who have agreed to share with us their expertise and insights for our Women Who Succeed Conference on May 14th beginning at 1:00 p.m., which will be held in the Robert H. and Katharine B. Garff building at the University of Utah. We expect a full house, with excellent speakers and lovely social reception. This event is for ALL Women Who Succeed members regardless if you are mentoring or not.
Jacki Zehner describes herself as a financial feminist. The latest Global Gender Gap Report states that at the current rate of change, it will take over 135 years to reach gender parity, and for Jacki, that’s completely unacceptable. As the founder of ShePlace, her plan is to bring all of her decades of experience championing the advancement of women and girls under one umbrella. Jacki learned quite a lot about finance while working at Goldman Sachs, where at the age of 32, she became the youngest woman and the first female trader to make partners. After leaving Goldman in 2002, Jacki spent almost a decade absorbing as much as she could about the wealth management industry, before diving into philanthropy full force, serving on many women-focused non-profit boards, giving through her family foundation, and co-founding a global philanthropic network called Women Moving Millions, through which members have collectively given over one billion dollars with a gender lens.

Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, Rose has spent the past ten years as an investment professional, with a focus on climate, gender, and impact-related investing. Through her work with ShePlace, Rose helps to manage all direct and fund investment opportunities and works closely with Jacki and the rest of the team to build community, develop resources and create strategies designed to unlock more capital for women/non-binary founders and fund managers. In addition, Rose works closely with early-stage female-founded companies as an advisor and coach to develop fundraising roadmaps and access capital, has advised individual and institutional investors on designing gender lens strategies, and also regularly leads workshops and lectures for universities, professional networks, and investment firms on the business case for equality, the importance of women’s economic empowerment and the power of women investing in women.

A big shout-out to the women who are presenting to our juniors and seniors in high school and college-age mentees!  Thank you for starting these young women off on the right foot for this exciting year!

Dr. Bernice King

Women Who Succeed is thrilled to have Dr. Bernice King join Katharine Garff for an hour-long conversation this week on the 21st at Eccles Theater! We hope to see many of you there as we have a nearly sold-out show with about 2,500 attendings. We are excited to host our Women Who Succeed reception in the OC Tanner Lounge at the Eccles Theater prior to Dr. King’s presentation from 3:30-4:30 pm. You must have purchased a ticket to the interview and rsvp’d to Kaitlin, kaitlinm@sieutah.org, to enjoy the reception. All proceeds from this event are used specifically to bring Dr. King to our community and to support the education of young women through scholarships, internships, mentees, and networking.  Thank you for your investment!
